Volodymyr VoYT JR.

Volodymyr Voyt Jr is a Ukrainian bandura player, improviser, and composer. Born in Kyiv, he graduated from the National Music Academy of Ukraine. Over the course of his career, he has been recognized as both an Honored and Merited Artist of Ukraine.

Volodymyr performs frequently as a soloist and ensemble musician in Western Europe and North America. He has collaborated with the Ukrainian Bandurist Chorus of North America, Canadian Bandurist Capella (Toronto, Canada) and Axios Men’s Ensemble (Edmonton, Canada). He has played with Okean Elzy, Julian Kytasty, Viktor Pushkar, Solomiya Moroz (String Air Synthesis — Duo "SAS") and others. He is a permanent member of the Hryhory Verjovka Ukrainian National Folkloric Ensemble.

He has composed the music for the films Stop Revolution! (2007), Music of Survival (2015), and Bohdana (2021). He was the initiator and curator of the 2017 and 2018 International Bandura Forums in Kyiv.

He promotes the Kharkiv style of playing and the acoustics of historical instruments, demonstrating an alternative to the Soviet or New Age style of the bandura-playing. He researches the music of the avant-garde period for the bandura and plays in minimalist, ethno-Baroque fusion, and ethno-Renaissance styles, among others. Additionally, Volodymyr plays free and structured improvisations (on graphic scores), in particular, in modal and microtonal settings, and advanced sound production techniques. He experiments with complex timbre procedures on the bandura and collaborates with contemporary composers from Ukraine, Germany and the USA. He plays in collaboration with Ukrainian improvisers.
