St. Volodymyr Institute residence is for students pursuing post-secondary education and training in Toronto's downtown core. We welcome both undergraduate and graduate students.

The residence is ideally located – adjacent to the University of Toronto, minutes from Toronto Metropolitan University, George Brown College, OCAD University, The Royal Conservatory of Music, Randolph Academy for the Performing Arts, and other institutions.

Over the course of our more than 60-year history, the student residence has been the heart and soul of St. Volodymyr Institute. Since our founding in 1963, thousands of students have chosen SVI as their home away from home while living and studying in Toronto.

As a member of the St. Volodymyr Institute community, you will be able to meet people from many cultures and walks of life. Our dedicated, well-trained staff will work with you to help make the residence community conducive to academic, social, educational and personal development.

  • Rooms

    St. Volodymyr Institute residence offers 46 furnished single-occupancy rooms with a choice of three different room sizes (subject to availability).

  • Meals

    All meals at SVI are prepared by our professional in-house kitchen staff, and served cafeteria-style in the dining room on the main floor of the building.

  • Amenities + Location

    Located in the heart of downtown Toronto, this is a student residence with amenities, including furnished rooms, internet, study rooms, and more.

 FAQs

  • Applications are processed on a first-come, first-served basis. You will receive a confirmation email once your application has been reviewed and approved. An acceptance package with room assignment, contract and student handbook will be sent out in early August.

  • The application review takes 5 to 7 business days after receiving your completed application package.

  • Applicants must submit a room deposit, two reference letters (employer, teacher, professor, clergy, coach, etc.) and a completed application form.

  • If St. Volodymyr Institute residence cannot accommodate you, you will be notified, and your deposit will be returned.

  • Invoices will be issued for each of the two residence fee installments. Payments can be made by cheque, e-transfer, wire transfer, or cash. Debit and credit cards are not accepted to cover residence fees.

  • Each floor has a coin-operated washer, dryer, and an iron and ironing board.

  • Each room includes WiFi connectivity and outlets for a landline telephone and cable TV/internet. To activate these services, you must contact the supplier directly (e.g., Bell, Rogers, etc.). WiFi internet is also available in the cafeteria and other common areas at SVI.

  • Yes. The meal plan is mandatory for student residents. If you have special dietary requests, contact the residence office to see if you can be accommodated.

  • Generally, less is more! Bring clothes, towels, toiletries, bed linen, laundry detergent, and any items to personalize your room.

    Electrical appliances, such as kettles, toasters and hotplates are prohibited in the rooms. Each floor has a shared refrigerator. You can bring a mini (bar) fridge for your room.

    Furniture is provided, and we do not permit residents to replace existing furniture with their own.

  • St. Volodymyr Institute assumes no responsibility for any stolen or lost property. We advise residents to obtain insurance coverage for their property, independently or through family policy riders.

  • Although limited, indoor storage space is available. Bikes must be stored and locked in the designated area. Bikes are not allowed in residence rooms.

  • Pets of any kind are not permitted in residence.

  • To reduce late night noise and disruptions, St. Volodymyr Institute enforces visiting hours. Visitors are welcome, but must vacate the residence by 10:00 p.m. on Sundays through Thursdays and by 11:00 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. Visitors are not permitted in the residence without their host present. Residents are responsible for the conduct of their guests.
