Eclectic Ukrainian Futures : Call for submissions deadline

  • SVI 620 Spadina Avenue Toronto, ON, M5S 2H4 Canada (map)

The OCADU Ukrainian Student and Alumnus Collective (USAC) is organizing a juried art exhibition and auction by current students, alumni and faculty of OCADU. In the Great Hall* in Fall 2023 at OCAD University, and presented in partnership with Canada-Ukraine Foundation, this event aims to showcase and celebrate the resilience and eclectics of Ukrainian art and design.

We encourage artists and designers to contemplate various Ukrainian futures and submit existing works and new ones that empower a future of Ukrainian cultures.

50 percent of proceeds from sales from the auction will go directly to the ‘Aid for Artists’ fund by the Canada-Ukraine Foundation. The Canada-Ukraine Foundation was established at the 18th Ukrainian Canadian Congress as a national charitable foundation to coordinate, develop, organize and deliver assistance projects generated by Canadians and directed to Ukraine. https://www.cufoundation.ca/

The bidding price of the silent auction starts at CAD $100.

We are looking for:

  • Artists or designers who identify as ethnically Ukrainian OR display Ukrainian content OR non-Ukrainian artists/ designers collaborating with Ukrainians.

  • Any media in arts or design is welcome - ie., painting, sculpture, printed media, video, installation, product design, creative writing . For auction sales - medium size (smaller than 48 by 48 inches) analog works are recommended.

Application deadline: August 15th, 2023

Interested artists and designers are invited to complete the application form and submit the images of their artwork. Selected applicants will be asked to drop off their work in person. We do not arrange transportation or shipping for any pieces. If you are not able to come in person, please ask someone to drop off your artwork on your behalf.

* The Great Hall is the central hub for the university, facilitating many events, lectures and receptions, as well as departmental exhibitions featuring curriculum-based projects by art and design students. We welcome all community members to support our mandate and enjoy the artwork in a safe and mindful manner.

Please note that OCAD U and the USAC is not responsible for any missing or damaged artwork.

The selected artists will be contacted at the end of September.
