Make pysanky so the world keeps on spinning

Since the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the timing of holiday celebrations has been affected. Easter and spring celebrations are still underway or have already passed for many. We continue to commemorate Easter by engaging in the tradition of making decorated Ukrainian Easter eggs and preparing our baskets this spring.

In March, we collaborated with Ukrainian Arts TO to host a weekend-long pysanky teaching event at SVI. We conducted five workshops, welcoming over 100 participants who joined us in making pysanky. For the majority of our attendees, it was their first time making Ukrainian Easter eggs.

All proceeds from the workshop will support the work of a Ukrainian documentary filmmaker Ihor Volochiy, who is currently working on the post-production of a documentary. "Ride the Line" is a documentary about two desperate friends who, in the most difficult times, decided to do what they do best and cycled 1,500 km along the entire front line in Ukraine, through liberated villages and towns, with the aim of raising funds for the Ukrainian army.

A BIG thank you to everyone who participated in the pysanky workshop, volunteered with us, purchased art, coffee, and treats during the spring market, and continues to share and celebrate Ukrainian culture.
