Book of the Month: "Alla Horska: The Kestrel"

This month is all about artists' books, and we are featuring the stunning hardcover “Alla Horska” published by RODOVID (Ukraine). It is the monograph accompanying the "Alla Horska: The Kestrel" exhibition, held at the Ukrainian House from March 15 to April 28, 2024. It features over a hundred original works by the renowned artist Alla Horska, sourced from museums and private collections, and delves into her artistic journey and legacy.

The book includes essays by historian Radomyr Mokryk, art critic Liza Yelyzaveta German, theater researcher Hanna Veselovska, art historian Diana Klochko, and journalist Oksana Semenik. The introduction is provided by Olena Grozovska, the exhibition curator. Additionally, Olena Zaretska, Horska’s granddaughter, offers a detailed biography. The publication was compiled by Anastasia Yatskovska, with design by Dasha Podoltseva.

Grozovska highlights the renewed relevance of the Sixtiers, symbolized by Horska, in light of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, drawing parallels to current events. Renowned writer Serhiy Zhadan likens the exhibition to a battle flag, symbolizing resilience amidst loss, and underscores the enduring power of Ukrainian culture against colonization.
