SVI Student Residence

Each room has a twin bed, mattress, mattress cover, pillow, blanket, desk, desk chair, study lamp, bookshelves, end table and lounge chair. Residents may bring their own mini fridge.

A coin-operated washer/dryer and an iron/ironing board are provided on each floor.

Each room has wired and WiFi connectivity intended for responsible use.

The main entrance doors are locked each night and on weekends. The elevator to residence floors is accessible only with a fob provided to each resident. The staircases to residence floors are locked at all times and accessible by residents using their keys. All municipal fire regulations apply to SVI.

The front desk is open 9 am to 5 pm, Monday to Friday. We also have live-in caretakers to ensure residents’ needs and requests are met. The front desk offers many services, including guest sign-ins, mail/parcel services, inquiries, repair requests, residence account information, and payment information.

SVI’s administrative staff is available on-site during regular office hours, to assist student residents.

SVI aims to offer creative and enjoyable activities for residents while providing opportunities for personal, professional, academic and social development. Residents are entitled to participate in all of SVI’s language and cultural programs free of charge. SVI’s staff will work with the Student Council to develop suitable programs for the student community.

Full-time students of Ukrainian heritage residing at St. Volodymyr Institute are eligible to apply for one of several available annual scholarships and bursaries.

St. Volodymyr Institute residence has a resident Don and an Assistant Don. Their primary roles are to offer direction and assistance to the residents and to liaise with the management on issues of mutual concern.

A shared lounge is located on each floor for residents to gather. These lounges are outfitted with tables and chairs, making them suitable for group or individual study. The SVI library can also be used as a study room during library hours.

The Student Council has a modest budget to organize activities or events.

Students may personalize their residence rooms in a variety of ways. Guidelines are provided in the Residence Handbook at the time of registration.

The following items are prohibited in the residence:
• pets of any kind
• candles, incense, native grasses
• hot plates, toaster ovens, kettles
• electric heaters, electric blankets -
SVI residence has gender-defined and gender-neutral washroom facilities depending on the floor (4th floor for females, 2nd floor for males and 3rd floor are gender-neutral). Washrooms have private and lockable showers, toilet stalls, and shared sinks. Washrooms are cleaned daily on weekdays.
Location
SVI Student Residence is located at 620 Spadina ave. It is ideally located in the heart of downtown Toronto – adjacent to the University of Toronto, minutes from Toronto Metropolitan University, George Brown College, OCAD University, The Royal Conservatory of Music, Randolph Academy for the Performing Arts, and other institutions.
Public transit is very accessible, and the TTC subway station is just a 10-minute walk from the building.
SVI is also a Ukrainian cultural hub that houses a Ukrainian library, museum, theatre, and offices for organizations.
